'Santa Rosa Fern'
Aglaomorpha 'Santa Rosa'

Aglaomorpha 'Santa Rosa'

This hybrid fern is definitely one of the most reliable performers. Not fast growing, but it just keeps getting more attractive as it gets larger. Aglaomorpha looks good in a 6" pot and all the way up to a 10" basket. Actually, just for fun try keeping a few and bumping them up to 12" or 14" baskets...Aglaomorpha can grow to be over 8 feet across! The shiny green fronds are very drought resistant and it can go for some time without water and still look attractive. Aglaomorpha holds up on retail shelves better than most other hanging baskets. Aglaomorpha is usually known in the trade as the "Santa Rosa Fern", and it is certainly a fern Luther Burbank would have appreciated. It can also be used as a landscape fern in climate zones that have light frosts but don't really freeze.

Culture for best commercial production:

Light: 1200 fc to 2000+ fc.

Temperature: 60º to 85º F.

Feed: 100 to 150 ppm on constant feed (15-5-15) with available Ca, Mg & pH around 6.

Pest Control: Talstar(r) + Orthene(r) works well as a preventative program for aphids or scale during the warm months.

Container: usually grown as a large table fern or hanging basket, it can also be grown in gallon cans to be used in the landscape in temperate climate areas.

Schedule: (starting with a Santa Rosa Tropicals plug)
4" starter pot - 10 to 12 weeks
6" pot - 12 to 16 weeks from a 4" pot
8" pot - 18 to 24 weeks from a 4" pot
10" basket - 18 to 24 weeks from a 6" pot
Pot all year on a regular rotation for year round sales.
